Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Williems

March 20, 2013 - 1:23 pm No Comments

Told in the witty style of Mo Williems’ other children’s stories, poor goldilocks ignores all of the clues that would have kept her from going into the dinosaurs’ house in the first place. The dinosaurs are looking for a little girl to munch on and Goldilocks falls right into their trap. Unfortunately, the dinosaurs aren’t very patient nor are they quiet…lucky thing for Miss Goldilocks.

A wonderful story of brothers, hand-me-downs, forgiveness and a mom who knows how to make everything right again.

Turkey Claus by Wendi Silvano

March 5, 2013 - 2:08 pm No Comments

Don’t wait until December to read this; some books are just too cute to save for one holiday.
This is by the same author that brought us the funny and much-lovedTurkey Trouble. Turkey has managed to make it through Thanksgiving, but then overhears that a good turkey dinner is on the menu for Christmas too. He decides to enlist the help of Santa, but has to go through quite a lot of trouble (and new and funny disguises) to get to the big man in red.

Isabella’s Garden by Glenda Millard

March 5, 2013 - 1:43 pm No Comments

Maybe you are tired of the cold and snow? Maybe you are already thinking about the garden you are going to plant this spring? Maybe you love a good cumulative tale? This book has it all. Isabella’s Garden is a cumulative tale (in the style of This is the House that Jack Built). Cumulative tales are great for pre-readers…there is so much repetition that it is easy for them to join in and “read” too.

Creepy Carrots! by Aaron Reynolds

February 27, 2013 - 10:34 am No Comments

Jasper LOVES carrots! He eats them as a snack on his way to school in the mornings. He eats them on the way to baseball practice. All he has to do is pick them from the field near his house…an endless supply of carrots! Everything is going to great until the carrots start to follow him…or is it just Jasper’s imagination? The ending is super cute…it turns out the carrots are super clever and just don’t want to be eaten and they have come up with a clever way to keep Jasper out of their field.

Little Owl’s Night by Divya Srinivasan

February 25, 2013 - 1:11 pm No Comments

The sun is setting and Little Owl’s night is just beginning. So many of the other forest animals are heading off to bed and bear is already asleep snoring in his den.

What I love about this book are the illustrations and all of the great words: waddle, gnawed, hovered, gazing, rustling, gliding…all of these words work their way into our children’s vocabulary when we read them quality children’s literature.

The Christmas Quiet Book by Deborah Underwood

February 25, 2013 - 12:14 pm No Comments

I know it seems like a weird time to be blogging about Christmas books, but now might actually be a great time to check out Christmas books from the library because everyone is done with them and you can pick whichever books you want, not whichever books are left.

Also, there was a time in our house where all our youngest wanted to read was Halloween books. We must have read Halloween books for a year. I am pretty sure that we checked out every Halloween book our library had to offer.

Anyways, I love this book. (I know, I always say that, but if I didn’t love it I wouldn’t be telling you all about it.) 🙂 I love the illustrations and I love how it calls itself to be read in a quiet voice…perfect for bedtime reading, perfect of naptime reading. Shhhhhhh…..

The Princess and the Packet of Frozen Peas by Tony Wilson

February 22, 2013 - 6:35 pm No Comments

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book! Prince Henrik is looking to marry. He wants his princess to be the outdoorsy type who likes hockey and likes to go camping.

Henrik asks his brother for advice on finding a princess and finds that his brother’s advice of finding a princess that is sensitive (aka totally picky and kind of a pain) just isn’t going to work for him.

I won’t spoil the ending, but I think you’ll like it. 🙂

Nighttime Ninja by Barbara DaCosta

I LOVE the illustrations in this book! They are done with cut paper, cloth, string and colored pencil. I also love the verbs the author uses in this book..a great way to build vocabulary while we are reading to our kids. Lastly, this is a super cute story of a little ninja who is on a mission while he is supposed to be in bed.
