Before You Came by Patricia MacLachlan & Emily MacLachlan Charest

This would be a beautiful book to share with a your baby, toddler or preschooler. The mother in the story talks about what her life was like before she has a baby and then moves on to talk about how she now shares all of those things with her child and how she used to think she had everything until she had a child. Yep, you might tear up a little…such a sweet and touching book.

Bumpety Bump! by Pat Hutchins

January 5, 2012 - 1:01 pm No Comments

This is a great book about a boy and his grandfather in the garden and a red hen that keeps following them. This story has a lot of repetition which children love and is great for developing beginning reading skills. It also is a rhyming books which is also great for beginning reading skills. Children will like the ending when they finally find out why that hen was following them. She has a surprise for them…

Barn Dance! by Pat Hutchins

January 1, 2012 - 11:58 am No Comments

The mama animals have put their babies down to sleep for the night so they decide to have a barn dance while the little ones sleep. Each of the mamas ends up getting tuckered out and crawling into bed with their little ones and once the little ones notice that the mamas are all asleep they get up and have their own dance party. This is a super cute book and it rhymes…I am a sucker for cute books with a good rhyme.

Carl’s Christmas by Alexandra Day

November 27, 2011 - 4:53 pm No Comments

Mom and Dad leave Carl (the dog) in charge of the baby while they go to church and then onto Grandma’s. While Mom and Dad are away, Carl and the baby go on an adventure into town where they win a Christmas basket and give to the poor…even Santa stops by while the baby is asleep. Carl books are great picks for little ones as they often come in board book form and they usually don’t have a lot of words. They are great books to look at and talk about the pictures and since there aren’t any words, the story can be a little different every time you “read” it.

Little Pink Pig by Pat Hutchins

November 4, 2011 - 4:40 pm No Comments

It is time for Little Pink Pig to go to bed and his mother can’t find him anywhere. She asks the cow and the horse and the chickens and the sheep, but no one seems to be able to see him or hear him. Your children will love this book because they know exactly where the pig is the whole time. It’s fun for children to know something that the characters in the story don’t know. 🙂 Your child will also love this book if they are into animals and animal sounds right now.

My Farm Friends by Wendell Minor

October 27, 2011 - 12:19 pm No Comments

I know there was a time in our house when this book would have been read ALL.THE.TIME. If your kids are going through that toddler/preschool phase where they LOVE all things animals or if they are into making animals sounds, then this is the book for you. I also love that it rhymes and the illustrations are so warm and soft.

The Boy and the Moon by James Christopher Carroll

August 9, 2011 - 3:19 pm No Comments

This was not a book I instantly fell in live with, but it grew on me. This book has sort of a magical feel…I think it’s the illustrations. In this story the moon gets stuck in a tree and although his animal friends are unable to help, the boy climbs the tree and comes up with an ingenious way to get the moon unstuck.

This is an adorable rhyming bedtime book and the illustrations are fantastic. This is definitely a keeper and one that should be added to your child’s personal library.

Tiny stars are shining bright,
whispering a warm “good night.”
Wish on twinkles up above
and dream of everything you love.
