You just cannot go wrong with a Karma Wilson/Jane Chapman “Bear” book. The story is sweet, the rhyme is endearing and the illustrations are lovely. In this installment, Bear’s friends all come by with food to share, but it seems that Bear doesn’t have anything to share because his cupboards are bare. Of course his friends don’t mind and there’s plenty to go around and the best thing to share is their friendship.

A wonderful story of brothers, hand-me-downs, forgiveness and a mom who knows how to make everything right again.

Little Bear does NOT want to sleep through the winter. He wants to stay with his friends, Mole and Squirrel, and play hide and seek in the snow and and throw snowballs and make snow angels. Plus, he is very worried that his friends will forget about him over the winter. Bears are bears though and Little Bear has to sleep through the winter…and guess who was waiting for him to play when he woke up?

A family is coming to spend the summer at their cabin which means the bears who have been living there need to pack up and move out in a hurry. As the people move in, the bears move out, but the bears don’t go far…wherever the people are the bears are right around the corner. Occasionally there’s a cake missing or some mysterious footprints, otherwise, the people never catch on that the bears are enjoying their summer right alongside the people in the lake cottage.
This is one of those books that doesn’t have a lot of words, but there are a lot of pictures which much to explore and discuss. Your kids will especially enjoy this book if your family has a lake house or lake cottage. Maybe you have some bears right around the corner, too. 🙂

Little Charlie is exhausted. He has been helping Mama all day long. Some of his helping wasn’t actually very helpful, but he was trying. 🙂 At the end of the day, after all of that helping, it’s time to go to bed and Little Charlie is more than happy to help Mama some more, by getting ready for bed and sleeping all night long.
This is such a sweet, sweet, book. It shows the absolutely sweet and tender part of our children who are willing to do anything for us because they love us.

We love, love, love Karma Wilson books in our house. Bear is a little nervous about losing his first tooth, but his friends are beside him every step of the way. The tooth fairy even comes to visit and leaves Bear a tasty treat for the next morning.
This book is just as cute as all of Wilson’s other adorable Bear books and your kids will love it. This would be an especially great book for the child in your life who hasn’t lost any teeth yet, but is at about that age or any child who has lost a tooth or two, but still has several more to go.

What is cuter than an adorable bear looking for something that’s big, tall and soft to hug? The rock doesn’t work and neither does the tree or the unsuspecting sheep. Luckily, he finds a friendly rabbit who knows just who Douglas is looking for.

All Bear wants to do is help decorate the tree, but Papa won’t let him. This is the perfect book for toddlers and preschoolers who are always wanting to help, but are always being told they are too small or aren’t allowed to help because they might break something. Bear leaves the room in tears, but Papa finds a very special job for Bear that leaves everyone smiling.

Another great addition to Karma Wilson’s Bear books. Bear gets lost in the woods and as the sun starts to set and the winds start to blow things get scarier and scarier. Meanwhile, back at the lair, Bear’s friends start to worry about him. They set off to look for him and they all end up back together in Bear’s warm lair all cuddled up together safe and snug.

Kids are fascinated by the fact that animals hibernate. This book follows animals and insects through the forest as one animal reminds the next that winter is on its way. All of the animals want to stay awake just a little bit longer, but as each one smells, sees, tastes or feels something that reminds them that winter is right around the corner, they find a place to snuggle up and bed down for the winter.
On a side note, I can’t believe that this is the first book by Denise Fleming that has made it onto MommaReads. I love, love, love the artwork in her books and this one is beautifully done as well.
