How Do You Hug a Porcupine? by Laurie Isop

February 13, 2012 - 2:04 pm No Comments

A very cute rhyming book that talks about all kinds of animals that are easy to hug…bunnies, cats, dogs, even pigs. But how to you hug a porcupine? The boy in the story comes up with all kinds of different ways to protect himself from the prickly porcupine, but in the end, it’s the porcupine who comes up with the best solution. This is a fun every day book and would be a cute Valentine’s Day book as well.

Hedgehug: A Sharp Lesson in Love by Dan Pinto and Benn Sutton

February 8, 2012 - 11:41 am No Comments

Hedgehug has BIG plans for Valentine’s Day. He has made his cards and is ready to show his love to all the critters in the forest. Unfortunately, some of them aren’t as receptive to Hedgehug’s prickly hugs as he had hoped for. His little heart is broken and he’s ready to give up when there’s a tap on his shoulder. Maybe he does have a friend out there. A very cute story of how sometimes things don’t always go the way you expect them to. I also thought I should note, that this adorable little story also uses the word “stupid” in it. If that bothers you, then just change it to “silly” and your little one will never know the difference, or if they do notice you can explain to them why you changed it. Happy reading!

Wherever You Are My Love Will Find You by Nancy Tillman

This would be a great book for a new parent. It’s also a great book to read aloud to your own child. It is a reassuring message that no matter where they are or what they are doing, no matter whether they have been disappointed or misbehaved, that your love for you child is with them wherever they may go. The illustrations in this beautiful book are fantastic as well. This would be a great book to read all cuddled up with your little one on your lap.

There is only one problem…not one of them bought a card for the two hungry caterpillars that are always asleep in the back of their classroom.
