Global Babies by The Global Fund for Children

November 2, 2010 - 12:11 pm No Comments

It doesn’t matter that your baby doesn’t know where Mali is, your baby will LOVE looking at the pictures of all the babies in this beautiful book that celebrates babies from all over the world. There is so much for a parent to talk about and describe in this book, too. Babies love to hear the sound of your voice and this is a great book to just sit and look at the pictures and talk about what you see.

Look at Baby’s House by Peter Linenthal

November 1, 2010 - 2:19 pm No Comments

A simple black and white book that goes through a baby/toddler’s day from breakfast to getting dressed to playing outside to bath time and bedtime. Babies love to look at things and “talk” about things that are all about them…it’s a great way to build on vocabulary too.

Night-Night, Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton

November 1, 2010 - 12:05 pm 1 Comment

Sandra Boynton has a knack for writing books that the little ones love and this one is no exception. Little Pookie’s mom is trying to get him to go to bed, but Little Pookie has other ideas. Your little one will enjoy the rhyme of this book as well as helping Little Pookie’s mom find him. Babies and toddlers also love to see how other little people (or in this case a pig) get ready for bed, too…picking out the pajamas, brushing teeth and getting tucked in with a kiss good night.

Tickle, Tickle by Helen Oxenbury

This was another favorite in our house when the boys were little. Babies LOVE to see other babies and even more, they love to see other babies doing the things they do like getting messy and taking a bath. This is a very simple book and sometimes those are the best kind…sweet and simple.

Counting Kisses by Karen Katz

November 1, 2010 - 9:49 am No Comments

My boys loved this book when they were little…not only do you get to kiss your baby all the way from their cute little toes all the way up to their sleepy little head, but it also works on numbers from ten to one.

Ten little kisses on teeny tiny toes
Nine laughing kisses on busy wriggly feet
Eight squishy kisses on chubby, yummy, knees

So much fun…little ones love the interaction and all those kisses!

All of Baby Nose to Toes by Victoria Adler

I remember the days when my boys were little…they would have LOVED this book. This is perfect for those kiddos who are learning where their eyes, nose, legs, tummies, etc. are. It also gets both parents and kids involved with the book and each other…very interactive and so much fun. This would make a great gift for new parents, too.

Duck & Goose Find a Pumpkin by Tad Hills

October 17, 2010 - 5:29 pm No Comments

Duck and Goose decide they want a pumpkin after they see that a friend has one. They look in a log, in a leaf pile, up in a tree, in a pond and on top of a stump and they still can’t find one. That’s when their friend suggests they look in the pumpkin patch. A very cute first book about Halloween or fall.

Leading to Reading

This is a great website geared towards babies through preschoolers. It has finger plays, songs, lullabies, stories, nursery rhymes and games which are all great pre-reading activities. This is a fun, high-quality website to explore with your little one.

A Good Day by Kevin Henkes

September 16, 2010 - 11:22 am No Comments

A book that is a good reminder that even a day that starts out bad can turn around to be a good day. Little yellow bird loses his favorite tail feather, but later on forgets about it and ends up flying higher than he has ever flown before. Little white dog gets tangled up in his leash, but works himself free and runs through the dandelions. Little brown squirrel drops an acorn, but later on finds the biggest acorn ever. The illustrations are charming and the text is simple and sweet.

Duck’s Key, Where Can it Be? by Jez Alborough

September 4, 2010 - 7:13 pm No Comments

Duck has lost the key to his car. He doesn’t know where it is, but there is a mischievous frog that knows exactly where his car key is. In this rhyming lift-the-flap-book, your child will love that they know where the key is, but Duck doesn’t. Duck does eventually find his car keys, of course, but he ends of forgetting something else. Silly Duck. 🙂
