How About a Kiss for Me? by Todd Tarpley

February 14, 2012 - 1:09 pm No Comments

All of the things a child could kiss…a pig? A skunk? A mop? A snake? A bird? A mouse? Your little one will love all of the animals in this book and also get a chuckle from some of the illustrations. In the end, the little boy kisses his daddy goodnight which is a way better thing to kiss than a mop. 🙂 A very cute rhyming story with a sweet ending.

All of the animals on the farm love the kisses that their parents give them. If your child is in that stage right now where they love farm animals, this would be a great book for them.

As if you needed a reason to kiss that little one of yours, this book will give you even more reasons…butterfly kisses, Eskimo kisses, slobbery kisses… You won’t be able to read this book without a whole lotta smooching.

Cuddle Up, Goodnight by Kate Cleminson

January 12, 2012 - 11:31 am No Comments

This book follows a little boy through his day while he eats, plays dress-up, goes to story time and preschool, has dinner and gets ready for bed. This would make a great cuddle time, nap time, bed time book.

Time to Sleep by Denise Fleming

Kids are fascinated by the fact that animals hibernate. This book follows animals and insects through the forest as one animal reminds the next that winter is on its way. All of the animals want to stay awake just a little bit longer, but as each one smells, sees, tastes or feels something that reminds them that winter is right around the corner, they find a place to snuggle up and bed down for the winter.

On a side note, I can’t believe that this is the first book by Denise Fleming that has made it onto MommaReads. I love, love, love the artwork in her books and this one is beautifully done as well.

Children are fascinated by the fact that some animals go to sleep for the WHOLE winter. I liked this book because it not only mentions bears, but many other animals that hibernate that we may not think about. I love that this story rhymes and I think many children will also identify with some of these animals who are having a hard time going to sleep because it’s too dark or because they need a snack or a drink before they fall asleep.

The Boy and the Moon by James Christopher Carroll

This was not a book I instantly fell in live with, but it grew on me. This book has sort of a magical feel…I think it’s the illustrations. In this story the moon gets stuck in a tree and although his animal friends are unable to help, the boy climbs the tree and comes up with an ingenious way to get the moon unstuck.

This is an adorable rhyming bedtime book and the illustrations are fantastic. This is definitely a keeper and one that should be added to your child’s personal library.

Tiny stars are shining bright,
whispering a warm “good night.”
Wish on twinkles up above
and dream of everything you love.

How Many Kisses Do You Want Tonight? by Varsha Bajaj

This book is perfect for the toddler/preschooler in your life. It has animals, it rhymes and it has counting. Each animal in the book tells their mom or dad a certain number of kisses they need before they can go to sleep. Then a little girl asks for 100 kisses, one for each curl and a boy tells his mom he wants a million kisses. How many kisses do you think your child will ask for?

I have no idea how many times I have read this book, but it is A LOT. This was a favorite at naptime in our house for a long, long, long time. Children love to look at pictures of other children doing all of the things that they do too…cuddling with their lovey, getting tucked in, getting a kiss from mom and going to sleep. Yay, bedtime! 🙂
