I Love You, Nose! I Love You, Toes! by Linda Davick

November 26, 2013 - 5:42 pm No Comments

It has been months and month since I’ve added a new book to MommaReads, but I have a whole stack of books here ready to review and this one is so cute I knew it had to be the first one.

If you have a little one who is into pointing out body parts then they will love this book. If you’ve been a MommaReads fan for awhile then you know I love a good rhyming book and this one doesn’t disappoint in the department either.

Little Owl’s Night by Divya Srinivasan

February 25, 2013 - 1:11 pm No Comments

The sun is setting and Little Owl’s night is just beginning. So many of the other forest animals are heading off to bed and bear is already asleep snoring in his den.

What I love about this book are the illustrations and all of the great words: waddle, gnawed, hovered, gazing, rustling, gliding…all of these words work their way into our children’s vocabulary when we read them quality children’s literature.

The Christmas Quiet Book by Deborah Underwood

February 25, 2013 - 12:14 pm No Comments

I know it seems like a weird time to be blogging about Christmas books, but now might actually be a great time to check out Christmas books from the library because everyone is done with them and you can pick whichever books you want, not whichever books are left.

Also, there was a time in our house where all our youngest wanted to read was Halloween books. We must have read Halloween books for a year. I am pretty sure that we checked out every Halloween book our library had to offer.

Anyways, I love this book. (I know, I always say that, but if I didn’t love it I wouldn’t be telling you all about it.) 🙂 I love the illustrations and I love how it calls itself to be read in a quiet voice…perfect for bedtime reading, perfect of naptime reading. Shhhhhhh…..

Piggies in the Kitchen by Michelle Meadows

September 10, 2012 - 10:05 am No Comments

Do your kids love surprises? Then they will love this book! The piggies are trying to whip up a culinary surprise for their mama, but they are making quite a mess. Papa comes to the rescue and helps them turn on the oven and get things cleaned up just in time. I love the rhyming in this book, too…it just adds so much to the book and makes it so much fun to read.

Indestructibles by Kaaren Pixton

Several months ago I had the privilege of working with Kaaren Pixton as she worked with groups of children to create beautiful art. Her work is AMAZING and her books for babies and toddlers are not only gorgeous, but are meant for little ones who put everything in their mouths and don’t quite yet understand that books are for looking at and are not for ripping to pieces.

I love that this idea for her books came from a need she saw with her triplet grandchildren. Any book they were given was torn to shreds…not the best way to start a love for books when you can’t give the child a book without them eating it or ripping it.

She has several titles including: Jungle Rumble!, Plip-Plop, Pond! and Creep! Crawl!

All of her books are non-toxic and if you’d like to learn more about Kaaren or see more of her books and artwork, you can click here.

Naamah and the Ark at Night by Susan Campbell Bartoletti

March 15, 2012 - 9:37 am No Comments

Since it has been raining NON STOP here for days, I thought this might be the perfect book to review today. This is the story of what went on at night on Noah’s ark. Naamah, Noah’s wife, would go from animal to animal and check on them and sing them to sleep until she, too, finally succumbed to the darkness and fell asleep next to Noah.

This story is actually a lullaby and is the perfect peaceful story to read at bedtime.

It’s Time to Sleep, My Love by Nancy Tillman

February 17, 2012 - 10:38 am No Comments

Wow! I LOVE this book. First of all, the illustrations are PHENOMENAL!!! This is one of the most gorgeous books I have read in a very long time. This is a great bedtime book as birds, frogs, cows, tigers and other furry creatures settle their own little ones in for the night. This book would also make a great gift for a new parent…a great baby shower gift perhaps.

How About a Kiss for Me? by Todd Tarpley

February 14, 2012 - 1:09 pm No Comments

All of the things a child could kiss…a pig? A skunk? A mop? A snake? A bird? A mouse? Your little one will love all of the animals in this book and also get a chuckle from some of the illustrations. In the end, the little boy kisses his daddy goodnight which is a way better thing to kiss than a mop. 🙂 A very cute rhyming story with a sweet ending.

All Kinds of Kisses by Nancy Tafuri

All of the animals on the farm love the kisses that their parents give them. If your child is in that stage right now where they love farm animals, this would be a great book for them.

Wherever You Are My Love Will Find You by Nancy Tillman

This would be a great book for a new parent. It’s also a great book to read aloud to your own child. It is a reassuring message that no matter where they are or what they are doing, no matter whether they have been disappointed or misbehaved, that your love for you child is with them wherever they may go. The illustrations in this beautiful book are fantastic as well. This would be a great book to read all cuddled up with your little one on your lap.
