Only One by Marc Harshman

August 14, 2010 - 8:19 am No Comments

A very innovative way to look at the number one…There may be 50,000 bees, but only one hive. There may be 7 peas, but only one pod. This book has some great vocabulary too…lots of learning going on here. 🙂

Ten Black Dots by Donald Crews

August 12, 2010 - 6:36 pm No Comments

This classic counting book has children thinking outside the box and seeing that they may look like black dots, but three black dots can made a snowman’s face or eight black dots can make the wheels on a train, for example. This would also be a great lead-in to a fun art project. The children could make their own project with a certain number of dots and turn it into their own creation. Fun times!

1 2 3: A Child’s First Counting Book by Alison Jay

August 12, 2010 - 6:27 pm No Comments

This book will have your child counting up to nine and then back down again. The thing I love about this book is the beautiful illustrations that are really illustrations from a variety of fairytales. Not only can you have fun counting with your child, but you can guess which fairy tale each illustration represents. Don’t worry, if you don’t know there’s a guide at the back of the book that tells you the answers. I must mention again the beautiful illustrations; they are what initially drew me to this book.

Silly 123′s by Joan Gallup

Cuddle up with your little one and enjoy this book together. Beautiful (and a little silly) illustrations designed for searching and counting.

Kiss Good Night by Amy Hest

July 28, 2010 - 11:33 pm No Comments

Sam’s mom reads him his favorite book, tucks him in, gets him his stuffed animals, gets him a glass of warm milk, but he’s not ready for bed until he gets a kiss good night. Great bedtime book and so sweet.

Aliens Love Underpants by Claire Freeman and Ben Cort

July 24, 2010 - 11:19 pm No Comments

An adorable story about how aliens steal underpants from the clothesline. What child doesn’t think underwear is funny? Add that to some very endearing and curious aliens with a cute rhyming story and you will definitely get a chuckle or two.

Little Critter by Mercer Mayer

July 24, 2010 - 10:52 pm No Comments

I would be remiss if I did not mention as some point the go-to books that my own kids get from the library EVERY week. The Little Critter books have been big in our house for the past four or five months. They are very cute books and I have never met a Mercer Mayer book I didn’t like.

The Very Noisy Night by Diana Hendry

July 22, 2010 - 10:44 pm No Comments

Does your little one hear noises in the night? Then they will be able to relate to poor Little Mouse who can’t sleep because of the wind, a branch tapping on the window, an owl hooting in the distance and a drippy faucet. If you have a little one like this, then you will be able to appreciate poor Big Mouse who is getting zero sleep trying to reassure Little Mouse that everything is okay. In the end, just like in your own life maybe, after all of that reassuring Little Mouse still ends up in Big Mouse’ bed.

Wink: the Ninja Who Wanted to be Noticed by J.C. Phillipps

July 16, 2010 - 10:22 pm No Comments

Poor Wink, he is training to be a ninja, but he is clearly not ninja material. Ninja’s follow rules and think alike…Wink is more of a think outside the box kind of person. One day, on the way home from school, Wink runs across a family who happens to be a part of the circus that has some to town. Maybe Wink can use his ninja skills and his think outside the box personality in the circus? 🙂 Cute story.

Saturday Night at the Dinosaur Stomp by Carol Diggory Shields

July 14, 2010 - 9:51 pm No Comments

This book will have you boppin’ around while you’re reading. As a matter of fact, the dinosaurs bop around so much there’s an earthquake. Such a cute book with an upbeat rhyming rhythm. Trust me, you almost have to dance while you are reading this book. A fun book that your children will want you to read to them again and again and before you know it they will be reading it to you! 🙂
