Fun on the Run! by Cynthia L. Copeland

June 25, 2010 - 12:01 am No Comments

How I have made it through parenthood thus far without this book I am not sure. This is the best book EVER for ideas of things to do with the kids while you are out and about…waiting at a restaurant, waiting at the bus stop, car games, waiting room games, doctor’s office games, grocery store games, airplane games…you name it and this book has got it. You should buy this book for yourself and keep it in your purse or in your glove box. It would make a great gift for a new mom, too.

Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox

June 23, 2010 - 11:16 pm No Comments

A beautiful story about several little babies all born at about the same time in very different places, but they all have ten little fingers and ten little toes. A perfect match for your little one who likes to explore their fingers and toes or for your toddler who is obsessed with babies. This would make a great baby gift as well.

Green Wilma Frog in Space by Tedd Arnold

June 20, 2010 - 11:22 pm No Comments

Wilma is minding her own business chasing a fly around the pond for breakfast when she accidentally gets sucked up into an alien spacecraft. The aliens on board think that Wilma is their child but that she must be terribly sick and that’s why she looks so different. Her alien “mother” puts her to bed to get better, but that doesn’t last too long…soon Wilma is up and hopping around. She ends up hopping across the flight controls which sends the ship in a nosedive and straight back to Earth.

On the Launch Pad: A Counting Book about Rockets by Michael Dahl

June 18, 2010 - 10:37 pm No Comments

A fun counting (backwards) book that leads children through the process of what it takes to get the astronauts into their rocket ship and blasting off. The book also has a fun number find built into the book. On each page there is a number hidden in the illustrations. A great introduction into the world of space exploration and a fun way to introduce or practice counting backwards.

Dimity Duck by Jane Yolen and Sebastien Braun

June 12, 2010 - 10:47 pm No Comments

Dimity Duck toddles out of bed, brushes her feathers and is ready to start her day. We follow her as she swims in the pond for her breakfast, as she spends the day playing with her friend Frumity Frog and then as she ends her playtime with Frumity and heads off to bed with a big snore. Such a sweet read and it rhymes…you know I am a sucker for books that have a good rhyme.

Mama, is it Summer Yet? by Nikki McClure

June 10, 2010 - 1:36 pm No Comments

From the text to the illustrations, this is such a sweet and simple book. I love the repetition, too…enough to engage a little one and get them involved, but not so much that it gets in the way of the story. A child wants to know if it is summer yet. His mom lovingly reassures him that it’s not summer yet, but if you look around you can see that nature is preparing for it and soon you will see signs that summer is here.

On Our Way Home by Sebastien Braun

June 7, 2010 - 11:19 pm No Comments

A simple story of a bear and his dad on a trek through the woods…playing in the leaves, eating berries, watching the sun going down. This story is simple and sweet and the illustrations are magnificent.

Just Me and My Dad by Mercer Mayer

June 5, 2010 - 10:11 pm No Comments

I am a sucker for just about anything Mercer Mayer and this one is no exception. It is the story of a boy camping with his dad. As with many of Mayer’s books, things don’t go very smoothly, but no matter, things will turn out alright in the end because he is with his dad.

Grizzly Dad by Joanna Harrison

Dads can get grumpy sometimes and sometimes they are as grumpy as bears. But what would happen if your grumpy dad actually turned into a bear?! I bet he’d give GREAT bear hugs even if he had bad smelly bear breath and I bet he’d make great honey sandwiches. See what other perks come with having a bear for a dad…

The Listening Walk by Paul Showers

June 1, 2010 - 9:55 pm No Comments

This book is about the quiet time a little girl and her dad spend together as they go on a walk around town listening to all of the noises they come across… from the sound of a jackhammer, to the sound of the crickets in the park to the sound of their own shoes as they walk. Read this book to your little one and then go on your own listening walk.
