Before I begin, I must tell you that I have never met a Margaret Wise Brown book that I didn’t like and this one is no exception. The way she weaves words together is fantastic, but that may not be why your little one will love this book. The youngest book lovers in your family will love the bright colors and the animals, but I bet they will also love the poetry, the phrasing and the rhyme. Happy reading!

My boys LOVED this book and it got read a lot at naptime. I probably haven’t read it in five years, but I think I could probably still recite it from memory. This book gives you lots of excuses to hug and kiss your little one, too…not that you need any excuses. 🙂

If you have a little one that is into animal sounds right now, then this is the book for you. It has flaps, too, and if you have a little one that is into animal sounds, my guess is that they probably love flap books, too. This book is also fun for kids because there is a lot of repetition so they quickly figure out that they can help participate in the story, too. Happy reading!

This is one of my all time favorite board books ever of all time. (Can you tell I really, really like it?) This book conveys just how much parents love their children no matter what kind of mischief their children get into. Grab a box of tissues before you read this one; I tear up every single time.

This is such a sweet, sweet book and might make you a little teary-eyed as you read it to your little ones. The illustrations in this book are wonderful and any parent will be able to identify with the message.
Here is an excerpt:
I am your parent you are my child
I am your quiet place, you are my wild
I am your calm face, you are my giggle
I am your wait, you are my wiggle….
I am your lullaby, you are my peek-a-boo
I am your kiss goodnight, you are my I love you

This is a super cute book that shows various animals with their parents and how the parents “carry” their babies from place to place. Little ones will love this book because it has animal babies in it and it rhymes. (You know how much I love rhyming books.) Parents will love this book because it is so sweet, the illustrations are fantastic and the book has a wonderful ending.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this magazine! We have outgrown it at our house, but I would HIGHLY recommend it if you have a child between the ages of 2 and 5, I would suggest you get a subscription ASAP. It has poems, hidden picture puzzles, short stories (both fiction and non-fiction), finger plays, riddles, simple crafts and recipes, and my boys’ favorite feature, Silly Pictures. (A picture with things happening in it that shouldn’t be happening…like a dinner scene with a dog and a cat sitting at the table, a woman wearing earmuffs at the table, etc.)

A little girl imagines what her garden would be like if she had her own garden. She would have jelly bean bushes, she would be able to change the colors of the flowers just by thinking about it, there would be no weeds and all the rabbits in the garden would be chocolate rabbits.

This is a cute rhyming book about the seasons a garden goes through starting with planting in the spring, things growing and getting picked in the summer, harvesting pumpkins in the fall and the blanket of snow covering the garden in the winter.

First of all, let me just say that I have loved every book I have ever read to my kids by P.K. Hallinan. This one is no exception. I like this book because it combines the family traditions of Easter that many families probably participate in like Easter baskets, Easter egg hunts and family dinners along with dressing up in special clothes, going to church and praying. If you have been reading MommaReads long enough, you also know I am a sucker for a book that has a good rhyme as well.
